Incentive Program at school

They have started a new incentive program at Ronin’s school in order to reign in bad behavior. To also help the kids realize that there are consequences for actions taken and good behavior will be rewarded.

Ronin explains the system as such:

"GREEN means you are good, YELLOW means you are being a little bad and RED means that you are so bad you get a note sent home. That's not good mommy." So I asked him what he thought about it and he said "I like cars mommy." Not what I was going for but it also made me see what he had grasped from the lesson.

This made me think of my dad.

To tell a funny story ... my dad was born in Germany and when the family escaped from Germany during WWII and moved to NYC - English was not his first language. In fact it was his 4th (German, Hebrew, Yiddish, English, French) .. anyway .. he used to get in trouble as he couldn't understand the language, was a TALL boy (hit 6 feet by 11 yrs old and grew to 6'7) .. but when he got in trouble the teacher handed him a colored index card. If he managed to make it the whole week without the color index card changing - he got a sticker. My dad never got that sticker (and they tried this with him for over 2 yrs.) When I read about the cars and lights I laughed. It seems the more things change the more they truly stay the same.
